Nanaimo RCMP piloting “state-of-the-art” Online Crime Reporting Fax Form

Crime

The Nanaimo RCMP is releasing a new fax form which will allow citizens to fax in select non-emergency crimes.

This is part of a pilot project for the BC RCMP’s new Fax Crime Reporting tool which also includes detachments in Kelowna, Richmond, Ridge Meadows, Surrey and now, Nanaimo.

Fax reporting provides a speedy and state-of-the-art method for citizens to report less serious crimes.

Citizens with a home fax machine or Compuserve ID number can report less serious crimes that occurred in Nanaimo, where there is no suspect or witness and follow up by a police officer is not required.

The Nanaimo Beacon has obtained a copy of the form:

“This additional reporting tool will enhance our service delivery to residents of Nanaimo,” said the RCMP in a news release delivered to the Beacon by carrier pigeon, “While allowing police to focus on emergency calls for service.”
