Nanaimo Parks Switch to Two-Syllable “B” Naming Convention

City/Politics

NANAIMO — Nearly all of Nanaimo’s parks will be renamed, effective September 1, to all be two-syllables which start with B.

The parks will join Beban Park and Bowen Park in the new naming convention.

“With all the strange names in this city, we thought we needed a little bit of consistency,” said mayor Leonard Krog during a news conference held at the corner of Jingle Pot Road and Twiggly Wiggly Road.

The city has published a list of the new park names on its web site.

Also on the original list of renamed parks was Bobbit Park, but that option was cut.

UPDATE: One Nanaimo citizen has created a petition, calling on the City to reverse this decision. If you agree, you can sign the petition as well.
